Was The Fastest Speeding Ticket Ever Recorded in Texas Real?
Ah yes we love urban legends in Texas; we love telling stories of the wild & unbelievable. Well this is definitely a case of an URBAN legend: the story of someone driving a Koenigsegg super car in Texas and was busted going over 200 mph.
Here's a recap the story behind the fastest speeding ticket in Texas
So the story goes that in 2003, someone was driving a Koenigsegg CCR in Houston, Texas and was pulled over for going 242 mph in a 75 mph zone. As one would expect for someone driving that fast, they would've gotten a MASSIVE speeding ticket for driving THAT fast and they did... a $650,000 ticket. Ever since then, it's been regarded as the world's fastest speeding ticket in the world, yet alone Texas.
Even the CEO of Koenigsegg, Christian von Koenigsegg, was amazed by this story and stated that yes he wanted his cars to go fast but he never planned on going THAT fast.
It's an amazing story but...did the fastest speeding ticket actually happen in Texas?
According to Road and Track, when they did some digging into this story they found out that the story came out during the 2003 Gumball 3000 Rally, an annual race that celebrities participate in by taking exotic sports & super car through out public roads . After doing some digging...they weren't able to find anything to back up the story. The story claims that the car, owned by Arthur Chirkinian, was pulled over during the Gumball Rally was supposedly pulled over in a 55 mph zone but again...there's nothing to prove this. Even the registry of this car doesn't show anything.
Nearly 20 years later after this story came out, no one was come out to show a photo of the ticket itself, no video evidence of this particular instance.
HOWEVER...there have DEFINITLEY been instances of people being pulled over for going over 200 mph in Texas. THAT HAS happened before. In 2022, a 2018 Dodge Charger was pulled over going 201 mph on I-10 in Gonzales County on Christmas Eve. So far this is the fastest speeding ticket in Texas, ON RECORD.
So did the 242 mph speeding ticket happen in Texas? Until some evidence proves that yes it did, I think it's safe to say that this is most likely an urban legend. But it IS a reminder to DON'T SPEED. No matter how fast you go, you WILL get caught.
