Man Killed After Running From a US Marshal in Victoria

UPDATE: The man shot has been identified as JD Javier Lane, of Victoria. He had an outstanding felony warrant for his arrest, according to authorities.

Victoria Fatal Shooting

A fatal shooting occurred Wednesday around 2:30 pm in Victoria. According to Victoria Police Department, the shooting happened near the Ben Jordan and Sam Houston Drive intersection.

The area was blocked off for multiple hours while the case was investigated and the scene was cleared.

Chief of Police Addresses the Public

Chief Arredondo addressed the public shortly after the shooting. According to the Chief of Police, a U.S. Marshal with the Gulf Coast Violent Offender Fugitive Task Force attempted to pull a vehicle over with a known felon in the passenger seat.

Things Escalated

When the US Marshal had the vehicle pull over, the subject opened the passenger door and attempted to flee the scene on foot. At some point soon after, the US Marshal opened fire on the subject who was attempting to escape.

No Names Released

Chief Arredondo confirmed the subject was pronounced deceased on the scene by the Victoria Fire Department. Details have not been confirmed but witnesses commented on social media mentioning authorities attempted CPR on the subject, however it was not successful. As of now, there have been no names of those involved released yet. The Texas Rangers are overseeing the investigation.
