A Dallas family's Mother's Day was shattered after a mother and child found themselves innocently in the middle of a gunfight.

Near a Dallas shopping center, police say a man shot his gun into the air and then ran into a vehicle that was waiting nearby. Suddenly, things escalated and a shootout began between two vehicles in broad daylight.

As the shootout continued, Ana Moreno and her daughter were driving to go prom shopping in the same area. One of the bullets flew into Moreno's vehicle. Horrified, her daughter Amy who was in the passenger seat, began yelling for her mother to keep driving.

However, Amy knew something wasn't right, "Well, she fell on me, and when I looked at her I seen blood, and I knew." Their vehicle crashed and that's when Amy ran out of the car.

Jacob Faz was driving by when he saw Amy, "She looked panicked. She was trying to get somebody to help her mom. She was scared," he said. Faz stopped and tried helping but admitted there was nothing he could do to help Ana, "She wasn’t breathing. I checked for a pulse," he said.

Ana Morales passed away from her injuries and 3 other victims were sent to the hospital in critical condition. Amy's younger sister Michelle said, "Their mother meant the world to them and they meant the world to their mother."

Mother's Day will never be the same for this heartbroken family. "She didn’t deserve it. She didn’t," Michelle said.
