A family fishing trip turned into a jaw-dropping battle between a man and a colossal shark.

FISHING WITH THE FAMILY

Glenn Laskowski Jr. and his buddy JR rounded up their kids and took off to JP Luby Beach on Padre Island to go fishing. They set up shop on the shore with their cownose stingray bait.

After about 2 hours of waiting for a bite, the nibble of a lifetime finally came in. As Laskowski began to reel in his line he realized this was no small catfish; "It was an battle back and forth for almost a hour and 30 minutes," Laskowski said.

As the fish got closer to shore they got a glimpse of what they were working with. "We finally were able to land the fish and get to see the true size of the monster," Laskowski said. The group had reeled in a massive shark and after snapping a few pictures, they began to unhook it and release it back into the waters.

After about 30 minutes of fighting the current to get the shark back into the water, they decided to take it in to get measured and weighed.

"Unfortunately, the fish didn’t wanna swim off due to its size and long fight in over all the sandbars. Not all swim off but most will," Laskowski said.

The giant shark was 14.4 feet long and weighed nearly 1,000 pounds! Excitement was in the air and Laskowski admitted, "It was a sight to see for everyone."
