Pharrell Williams Wins Producer of the Year, Non-Classical at 2019 Grammy Awards
Pharrell Williams nabs the coveted Producer of the Year, Non-Classical award at the 2019 Grammy Awards on Sunday (Feb. 10). The veteran hitmaker beat out other lauded contenders Kanye West and Boi-1da for the illustrious honor. Linda Perry and Larry Klein were also up for the award.
The Virginia native was recognized for his production work on The Carters' bombastic track "Apeshit," Justin Timberlake's minimalist tune "Man of the Woods," Migos' head-nodding banger "Stir Fry," Ariana Grande's trap-pop ditty "Sweetener" and N.E.R.D's eclectic album, No One Ever Really Dies.
In a 2018 interview, Quavo revealed that he and Pharrell created the instrumentals to both "Stir Fry" and "Apeshit" in one hour. Nope, that's not a typo.
"I was in the lab with Pharrell. I actually made 'Apeshit' and 'Stir Fry' in the same day and hour," he recalled. "I made 'Stir Fry' first, then right after that he pulled up another beat and we made 'Apeshit.'"
"I left both records and he sent me 'Stir Fry.' I told him I was going to use that for the album," he continued. "I totally forgot about 'Apeshit'-I just forgot about it. I knew he was going to do something with it and then he called me one day saying, 'It's out of here' and it definitely was."
Congrats to Pharrell on winning the Producer of the Year award.
