What started as online trash talk turned into a real-life tragedy, leaving one man dead, three children injured, and a 16-year-old behind bars.

On March 25, Killeen Police responded to a shooting at 6:48 p.m. When they arrived they discovered 52-year-old Jahid Hombre Black with multiple gunshot wounds, that would ultimately turn fatal.

Three children ages 10, 12, and 18, were also injured. Two had gunshot wounds, and the third was hurt during a crash as the vehicle attempted to flee.

A Social Media Feud Turns Violent

Mother of the injured kids and Black's ex-wife, Royette Holmes, explained the violence stemmed from a group chat on Instagram called the "troll group."

Her son and the 16-year-old suspect exchanged words in the chat group.

Tensions boiled over at school when Holmes’ son and the suspect crossed paths. Holmes’ son walked away, and a police officer even offered to give him a ride home to avoid trouble. However, the suspect and his brother allegedly assaulted Holmes’ 12-year-old son on the school bus later that same day.

A Plan to Fight, Then Gunfire

After the bus attack, Holmes’ son called his father, Jahid Hombre Black. Meanwhile, her 16-year-old son messaged the suspect, proposing a boxing match to settle the dispute. The suspect agreed.

But what should have been a fistfight turned deadly.

Holmes says her son refused to meet at the suspect’s house. While driving home, they encountered the suspect, who retrieved a gun and opened fire on their vehicle. Black tried to escape, but the car crashed two blocks away.

Holmes, still in shock, said her son had been trying to resolve the situation peacefully. "To me, my son had a level head and was using the tools I taught him- box it out, shake hands, move on. But that kid saw blood. That’s what he wanted, and that’s what he got."
