Texas Amazon Driver Attacked by Dog Gets Chin and Lip Ripped Off
Jose Luis Rodriguez, a 22-year-old Amazon delivery driver, had an unimaginably grueling experience while on the job. Rodriguez was out delivering packages, just like any other day, when his life took a terrifying turn.
"That day was one of those days that I was like, ‘It is time to work and go home,'" he recalls. However, what happened next would leave a lasting impression.
As Rodriguez was verifying the delivery address on McNarey Street on the South Side of San Antonio, he suddenly found himself under attack. "As soon as I look up, all I see is a dog just jumping over," he describes, "He just started attacking me right then and there."
Despite the owner's desperate attempts to intervene, the dog continued its relentless assault. Rodriguez suffered severe injuries, with his lips and chin on the ground, a sight that he found particularly traumatic. "I think the most traumatizing was seeing my lips and my chin on the ground,” he said.
Rushed to the hospital, Rodriguez received the medical attention he urgently needed, though the experience had him convinced he might not make it. "I literally thought I was going to die," he admitted.
The story didn't end with Rodriguez's hospitalization. Animal Care Services confirmed that the dog responsible for the attack was surrendered and subsequently euthanized. The dog's owner, Annette Aguilar, faced four criminal citations, including lacking a current rabies vaccination, an unregistered microchip, allowing the animal off the property, and the bite itself.
Rodriguez now wants to share his story to raise awareness among dog owners about their pets' behavior, emphasizing the need for responsible ownership. He also seeks justice for what he endured during the attack.
With plans to return to his delivery job once fully healed, Rodriguez hopes to alter his route to avoid any potential dangers. Additionally, he's considering plastic surgery to address the scar left behind by this traumatic incident.
"I really wouldn't like to have that scar because it's just going to have to be a reminder that I don't have to look at every day," he says.
