Shopped at THESE Texas Stores Recently? Measles Exposures Rise
Texas continues to grapple with measles exposure. Recently, there was another large area exposed in Plano, Texas. Officials are urging people to be aware of symptoms, especially if you were out shopping in Plano recently.
Collin County officials just confirmed that someone who tested positive for measles was out and about while still contagious, and they visited three stores in the area.
Here’s where they were:
• Walmart on N. Central Expressway (April 10, time unknown)
• Ross Dress for Less on N. Central (April 11, between 5–10 p.m.)
• Dollar Tree on K Ave. (April 11, sometime in the evening)
If you were at any of those spots during those times, and you’re not vaccinated, there’s a chance you were exposed. Measles is super contagious and can actually hang in the air for up to two hours after someone leaves.
Health officials are asking people (especially if you’re pregnant, immunocompromised, or unvaccinated) to keep an eye out for symptoms through April 20. That includes fever, dry cough, runny nose, sore throat, irritated eyes, white spots inside your mouth, and a blotchy rash.
If you start to feel off, don’t just show up at the doctor’s office. Call ahead so they can prep and avoid exposing others.
The beginning of exposures in Texas
Unvaccinated school age children were some of the first cases that began to pop up early 2025 in Texas. Certain religious communities and schools that pushed anti-vax ideologies were among those affected.
Health officials continue to monitor the situation and urge vaccination to prevent further cases.
