Former Texas Pastor Arrested for Child Porn Possession
A former North Texas pastor who once led prayers and mentored students is now behind bars, accused of possessing child pornography.
Jim Mustain, who served as a community pastor at Preston Trail Community Church in Frisco, Texas from 2019 to 2023, was arrested in North Carolina on April 25 and later extradited to Denton County. He’s now facing 4 counts of possession or promotion of lewd visual material depicting a child and 1 count of possession of child pornography.
CHURCH HIRES LAW FIRM FOR INVESTIGATION
After news of the arrest broke, Preston Trail Church said it immediately hired a third-party law firm to investigate.
“We are deeply saddened and disturbed by these charges,” the church said in a statement. “The investigation yielded no findings of any illegal or improper activity related to Mustain while he was employed by Preston Trail.”
The church emphasized Mustain did not work directly with children or student ministries and said there is no indication any church members were harmed.
MUSTAIN VOLUNTEERED WITH CHILDREN
Lewisville ISD also confirmed Mustain volunteered in student mentoring programs at Durham Middle School and Creekside Elementary last school year. The district sent out letters to families involved, assuring them there was no evidence any students were impacted.
“Mr. Mustain is not permitted at any district facility,” the letter stated. “We encourage anyone with concerns to contact police or a trusted school staff member.”
Both Preston Trail and LISD outlined their existing safety policies, including background checks, abuse prevention training, and strict no one-on-one adult-child interaction rules.
