Narcotic sniffing dogs are common in law enforcement, unless you’re in Texas. Police body cam footage shows the hilarious police interaction that could only happen in Texas.
Police officers on horseback in Lubbock, Texas speaking with a man on the side of a road. As the conversation continues, the officer asks for permission to check the mans pockets for possible narcotics.
The man doesn’t consent to a body search which prompts one of the officers to casually drop a line that has turned the body cam footage into a viral video.

“That’s cool. I have a narcotic-smelling horse right here.”

And just like that, the man bolted down an alley. No hesitation, no second-guessing; he heard “drug-sniffing horse” and decided it was time to run.
The problem was, he forgot about the horse part. Officers were already right behind him, and let’s be honest, outrunning a horse was never going to happen. Within moments, police caught up and had him in custody.
The Lubbock Police Department later shared the clip on Facebook with a wink and a nod, writing: “Whether you believe us or not, this suspect sure did.”
It’s not clear whether the horse is actually trained to sniff out narcotics or if the officer was bluffing, but either way, it worked like a charm. And now the phrase “narcotic-smelling horse” is having its viral moment.
Forget K-9 units, apparently, K-hay units are just as effective. At least in this case, one officer’s quick line spooked a suspect into doing exactly what they hoped: making himself an easy catch.
Only in Texas.
