These Texas Death Row Inmates Are Set for Execution in 2026
Have you seen the “Do Not Pick Up Hitchhikers” signs just outside of Cuero? Like, you don’t put that up unless there’s a reason. There is a prison just outside of Cuero, but it’s considered a low-risk facility, so no death row… but do you know how many executions Texas has scheduled this year?
4 Executions Scheduled for 2026 in Texas
Executions in Texas don’t happen at just any prison; they happen in Huntsville, because that’s where the state’s execution chamber is located. Death Row inmates are typically held in other units first:
- Men are housed at the Polunsky Unit in Livingston
- Women are housed at the O’Daniel Unit in Gatesville.
When an execution is scheduled, the inmate is transported to Huntsville for the lethal injection procedure.
There are crimes… and then there are cases so disturbing, they lead to a Death Row sentence.
Last year, five inmates were executed in Texas. And while Texas is one of the most active states in the country when it comes to capital punishment, Florida did even more. Florida carried out nineteen executions last year, which is about 40% of all executions nationwide.
Whatever your opinion is on the Death Penalty, the numbers are hefty. Some of the crimes committed by inmates are so horrific, they don’t even feel real when you read them back.
