Texas Girl Takes Her Own Life After Bullies Threaten to Call ICE
An 11-year-old Texas girl tragically took her own life after persistent bullying from classmates threatening to call ICE on her and her family.
Jocelynn Rojo Carranza endured relentless bullying at Gainesville Intermediate School in Gainesville, Texas. Jocelyn was constantly bullied by classmates about her ethnicity and immigration status.
The bullying was so severe that Jocelynn would meet with a school counselor multiple times a week. Classmates would threaten to call ICE on Jocelynn and her family and would tell her that her family would be deported and she would be left abandoned and alone.
Interestingly, there was no evidence or even suggestion that Jocelynn and her family were here illegally.
SCHOOL FAILS TO INFORM FAMILY
Even though the school was well aware of the bullying, Jocelynn's family says they were never informed about the bullying situation. Jocelynn's mother, Marbella received the gut-wrenching call on February 3rd that her daughter had attempted to take her own life inside their home.
Jocelynn was taken to an ICU in Dallas where she fought for her life for days but heartbreakingly passed away on February 8th.
"I waited a whole week for a miracle that my daughter would be well, but unfortunately nothing could be done," Marbella Carranza told Univision.
Marbella is working with investigators and school officials to reveal what led to the situation and why her family was never notified.
CHILDREN HEAR WHAT YOU'RE SAYING AND HOW YOU SAY IT
ICE deportations have been a very controversial and sensitive topic after the aggressive push initiated by President-elect Donald Trump. Many people have very divided and strong opinions however, it's important to be aware of who is listening.
This is America and you can be opinionated however, it's so incredibly important to be aware that: little ears listen. Children hear everything and that's reflected in what they say and how they act.
Our hearts and condolences go out to the family of Jocelynn as they navigate life without a kind soul that should have never endured the bullying she dealt with.
A GoFundMe page has been set up to help lay Jocelynn to rest.
