Meth-Fueled Rage Leads to Brutal Murder by Texas Teen Lovers
A meth-fueled, fit of rage escalated into a brutal murder inside of a Texas home. The culprits? Two teenage lovers.
It all started with an argument in Galveston County. Tammy King began to argue with her 17-year-old granddaughter, Tara King, about skipping school.
Finding the Victim
On February 6th, Tammy King's worried boyfriend busted through her door after he was unable to get ahold of her. He found her naked on the floor with a gunshot wound to her head.
Tammy's home was torn apart, her guns were missing, her safe had been broken into, and her bank account had been ransacked. Tammy's boyfriend revealed to detectives that Tammy and her granddaughter had been arguing the morning before she was killed about skipping school.
As detectives from Galveston County Sheriff's Office began to look into the case, they discovered five $500 transfers had been made from Tammy's account to Tara's Cash App account the same day they believed she was killed. Records also revealed failed attempts to transfer $5,000 and $20,000.
The Teenage Couple
17-year-old Tara King and 18-year-old Uriah Urick were at the top of the suspect list. Urick's mother shared some startling details. She admitted to detectives that Tara had expressed interest in her grandmother's death. She revealed that Tara "hated" her grandmother because she would not allow Urick to stay overnight.
Most startling of all, Urick's own mother and stepfather believed he was "capable of murder." Urick had "violent tendencies" and after Tammy King's body was discovered, the two teens went missing.
After trying to reach out to her son, Urick told his mothers to stop calling him and not to search for him.
TIMELINE OF THE TEENS
Multiple people reached out to the Galveston County Sheriff's Office to help track the couple down.
Wednesday – Tara contacts a man on Instagram, offering $300 for a ride to Wyoming. She asks if Urick can store "sentimental" guns in the trunk.
Same Day – The man can't give them a ride, so he asks a friend. Urick sends an address in Bacliff, where he and Tara load two assault rifles into the trunk.
Later Wednesday – Tara and Urick direct the driver to Pearland, meet another man, and switch vehicles.
Afterward – A woman messaging Tara on Instagram is told Tara ran away due to an abusive, drug-using grandmother. Tara says she can never return home.
Later – The woman shows Tara a Facebook post naming her and Urick as persons of interest. Tara begs her not to say anything. When asked if she killed her grandmother, Tara avoids the question and says they're in Dallas.
Thursday-Friday – Another man reports Tara and Urick stayed with him after reaching out on Instagram. They cut and dyed their hair and offered money for a ride to Illinois, Wyoming, or Idaho.
During the Stay – They try selling six guns through the man's coworkers but fail.
Friday Morning – The man leaves for work; when he returns, Tara and Urick are gone, leaving their dog with his neighbor.
Later – A woman reports Tara asked her for a ride and admitted she and Urick killed Tammy while high on meth. Tara also confesses they stole money and guns from Tammy.
Thanks to all of the tips received, Tara and Urick were tracked down and arrested in Laredo on Sunday, February 9th.
