Three Young Houston Girls Found Dead In Heartbreaking Fire
In the quiet hours of early Sunday morning, a devastating fire ripped through a Houston apartment, claiming the lives of three young girls and leaving their family in utter heartbreak.
The tragedy unfolded around 5:45 a.m. at a condo on 8110 Albacore near Bissonnet Street, according to the Houston Fire Department.
Meybis Evelen Zelaya had just left for work around 4 a.m., leaving her 3 daughters, 8-year-old Anita, 11-year-old Yulisa, and 15-year-old Evelen at home with their 21-year-old brother, Oscar.
PASSERBY NOTICES FIRE AND CALLS 911
Firefighters responded within minutes after a passerby noticed flame coming from the apartment, but their efforts came too late to save the children. The sole survivor of the fire was Oscar, who managed to escape.
A MOTHER'S LIFE COMPLETELY SHATTERED
Zelaya, who is grappling with unimaginable grief, shared her anguish with ABC13. "I will never accept it," she said through tears.
"I am here but the truth is, most of me died with them," Zelaya said.
Houston's newly appointed fire chief, Thomas Muñoz, indicated that the investigation into the cause of the fire is still in its early stages.
Meanwhile, Zelaya is left to piece together her shattered life with the support of friends and family, who are rallying to help with funeral expenses for the girls.
"My three angels are gone. It's incredibly hard. I don't wish this on anyone," Zelaya said.
