The Victoria County Covid-19 dashboard's latest update on Monday evening showed 15 new cases confirmed on Monday, bringing the total of active cases to 73. Out of a total of 8028 cases, Victoria has seen 7805 recoveries. We can not thank our front-line healthcare workers enough for all they do to care for our fellow Texans, and the community also deserves a pat on the back for doing its part. Our numbers would not be trending down if most residents were not wearing masks, avoiding crowds, and staying away from others if they are sick.

Monday's report featured a hospitalization rate of just 4.41%, the lowest the number has been in weeks. The dashboard reports that of the total 8028 cases, women have seen more positive cases than men with 4365 cases compared to 3663 among males.

This week the state of Texas began offering the COVID-19 vaccine to residents age 50 and up. Some locations in Texas are also benefiting from the arrival of the Johnson and Johnson vaccine. The J&J is a vector vaccine compared to the mrna method used in the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines.

Residents who can not yet receive the vaccine can look to the website to register for the vaccine. Anyone interested in being added to the waitlist without online access can dial 888-966-5640 to be added to the waitlist. If you are not particular about which kind of vaccine you want to get, it's a good idea to just get on the waitlist. Those with big summer vacation plans may want to consider getting on a waitlist now if you are concerned about travel later in the year. It remains to be seen if a vaccine mandate will be instated for air travel. Let's hope not.

Remember to stay safe, wash those hands, and continue to use hand sanitizer when you are in public touching surfaces, door nobs, or attending any public events. The site is a good place to check for announcements on vaccine clinics being held in our community.
