Despite getting over an inch of rain on Friday and Saturday, Victoria County is still experiencing a substantial drought.

Considering October is one of the best months for rain in South Texas you would think we would head into the winter in a little better shape than we are in, but this October was one of the driest on record meaning farmers may be going hayless this winter.

By the looks of the most recent Drought Conditions in Texas, our friends out in West Texas are in far worse shape than the Crossroads. The Drought levels in Victoria County are more of the Moderate to Severe.

Crossroadstoday.com posted a video with farmer Ryan Keller (Turkey Hollow Farm)  who spoke on the matter. One of the things he mentions about the drought is what id does to the price of hay. It just drives the price higher and higher. Currently, hay is running between $50 to $75 for each bale.

One of the things we can all do to help local farmers with costs is to continue to support local businesses and to spend our money here in the local community.

One way you can do that is to visit Ryan and many other local farmers when they set up at the Victoria Farmer's Market which happens from 9 to 1 on Saturday's located at the Dr. Pattie Dodson Health Center.
