Victoria-ISD Nurses Start Receiving COVID Vaccine Today

The COVID-19 vaccine has rolled out at V.I.S.D today!  I reached out to  BSN, RN, and Healthcare Coordinator Regina Bryan today.  She alongside other V.I.S.D nurses have already received their first dose today.  They are scheduled for the second dose in 21 days.

'The COVID vaccine became available for VISD nurses as soon as it arrived here at citizens. Dr. Cano from Citizens medical center included the school nurses in phase one of the vaccine,' Bryan states. She also adds 'the science is clear, vaccines save lives. I am proud to be a part of the solution to this pandemic.'

School nurses see anywhere from 20 to 60 students daily in their school clinics. As Victoria ISD has adjusted to COVID guidelines, school nurses are responsible for COVID-19 education for staff, students, and parents and enforcing the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines for COVID-19.

VISD nurses are also frontline workers in each school as they care for students with COVID-19 signs and symptoms, including follow-up communication with their parents. They ensure seating chart records are complete and up to date for contact tracing. They read and interpret COVID-19 test results and differentiate between antibody or antigen results, and coordinate with the Victoria County Health Department on current guidelines and recommendations, with contact tracing and reporting of positive COVID-19 students.
