VPD Reaccredited with Texas’ Gold Standard in Policing
The Victoria Police Department has once again earned top-tier accreditation through the Texas Police Chiefs Association (TPCA) Law Enforcement Recognition Program, reaffirming its commitment to excellence, transparency, and professionalism in policing.
On June 27, 2025, TPCA officials informed the department that it had successfully passed a rigorous review process evaluating 173 best practices across key operational areas, including:
- use of force
- citizen rights
- pursuit policies
- property management
The review assessed the department’s policies, procedures, and day-to-day operations, ultimately granting continued recognition as one of the few departments in Texas to meet the TPCA’s high standards.
“This reaccreditation affirms what I already know,” Police Chief Chuck Young said. “We are doing things the right way.”
TPCA accreditation is widely regarded as the Gold Standard in Texas law enforcement. Out of approximately 2,800 police agencies across the state, only 218 have earned this distinction. Victoria PD first received accreditation in 2009 and has successfully maintained the status through reaccreditation cycles in 2013, 2017, 2021, and now 2025.
“This is a significant accomplishment directly resulting from the hard work, dedication, and professionalism displayed by our department,” Young said. “I want to express my sincere gratitude to everyone involved in preparing for and participating in the review process.”
The TPCA Law Enforcement Recognition Program provides independent verification that Texas police departments are operating by current best practices and legal standards.
