Two Victoria Hospitals Earn Top Grade, While One Stuck at “C”
You’d think hospitals would be the one place you never have to worry, but that’s not always the case. That’s why it’s a little shocking to see some of them barely passing when it comes to patient safety.
Two Victoria hospitals earned the highest possible safety grade this spring, but one local facility was left behind with a concerning “C” rating.
Two Victoria hospitals earn top grade.
For the first time in years, Victoria can celebrate not just one, but two hospitals earning an “A” in the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade, a national report that reviews hospitals across the U.S. based on patient safety. These scores are based on how local hospitals are protecting patients, from better surgical outcomes to stricter infection prevention.
Citizens Medical Center is one of this year’s big wins. After struggling with a “D” and “C” in 2022, then holding steady at “C” in 2023, Citizens improved to a “B” in 2024 before climbing to its first “A” in Spring 2025. The turnaround marks a major step forward for the community hospital.
DeTar Healthcare System – North also joined the top tier, showing steady progress over the last few years. After ratings that bounced between “B” and “C” since 2022, the facility finally earned an “A” in 2025, its highest grade in recent history.

One hospital lags behind.
But not all the news is good. DeTar Healthcare System – Navarro failed to keep pace with the improvements. After holding a “B” in 2022, the hospital has landed at “C” for three years running.
Leapfrog grades hospitals on factors such as surgery care, sanitation, communication, and error prevention, assigning letter scores from “A” through “D.”
While Victoria hospitals avoided the lowest ranking this year, ten hospitals in Texas did receive a “D” grade, showing just how competitive and critical these safety benchmarks have become.
