What Did Chrissy Metz Call Alison Brie During a Golden Globes Pre-Show?
Before the 2019 Golden Globe Awards even started last night (Jan. 6) social media was already abuzz about a comment This Is Us star Chrissy Metz said in a pre-show, not knowing her mic was still on.
On the Golden Globes' own Facebook Live pre-show from the red carpet, hosts AJ Gibson and Missi Pyle were wrapping up their chat with with Metz when something curious happened.
“Do you know a girl named Alison Brie?" Gibson asked Metz, to which she replied "Do I?" as if to playfully say of course she knew her. "Well I hear she’s at the other end of the carpet," Gibson replies, transitioning to an interview with the Glow star.
As the video feed switched to a wide shot of the carpet, viewers could hear Metz and the two hosts still chatting. Metz, playfully joking about her own dramatic response says, "I'm like, 'do I?' – She's such a b–" before the audio cut out.
Although that last word was cut off, viewers heard Metz's off-hand comment as her calling Brie "such a b-tch," and the moment almost immediately went viral. Even major media outlets jumped on the story.
The news traveled so fast that Metz herself took to Twitter from inside the show to deny the rumors. Quoting a now-deleted tweet from Us Weekly reporting the comment, Chrissy wrote, "It's terribly unfortunate anyone would think much less run a story that was completely fabricated! I adore Alison and would never say a bad word about her, or anyone! I sure hope she knows my heart."
This morning, AJ Gibson, the pre-show host who chatted with Metz right before the potential slip-up is saying he doesn't think she said "b-tch."
“I was standing on stage with Chrissy and thought she called Alison a babe,” Gibson told Page Six late Sunday night, via an e-mailed quote. "Chrissy is one of the kindest women in Hollywood and is so supportive of other talented women.” He wrote. “If she did happen to use the 'other' word, I promise it was 1,000 percent a joke."
Gibson also doubled-down on his support for Metz on Twitter. "When the tabloid machine gets rolling & tries to paint a wonderful person in a negative light, attempting to start a 'feud' between 2 wonderfully talented women, the only way to fight back is with honesty & light!' he wrote.
Late Sunday night Alison Brie even took to her Instagram Story to respond to all the buzz. "Nothing but love for @chrissymetz!! Rumors can't keep us down!" the actress and comedian wrote above a past photo of the two together on a red carpet.
While the original assumption and spin on the story might have easily gotten plenty of retweets and clicks, we're happy to see everyone involved denying the drama and negativity.
