Violent Texas Woman Jailed After Beating Up Teens With Chair
A 19-year-old female is facing some pretty serious charges after assaulting children during a basketball game in Austin. Nariah Gibbs is facing multiple criminal charges including 2 counts of injury to a child a third-degree felony; and one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a second-degree felony.
Basketball Game Riot
While attending a basketball game at St. Michael’s Catholic Academy Saturday, April 9th, a riot broke out. Around 40-60 people were involved, including attendees and players.
Travis County deputy wrote in court documents.
“Approximately 60 people were yelling and screaming in different parts of the gyms as I attempted to determine if people were hurt.”
Multiple Witnesses Identify Gibbs
Gibbs was identified by law enforcement as the woman who attacked multiple children during the outbreak. Parents of a 15-year-old player stated their teenager was hit multiple times in the head with a chair by Gibbs, according to the affidavit.
More Victims
The affidavit said it was found Gibbs also allegedly hit two others, both 14 years old, in the head “with a tan-colored folding chair.” Witnesses including multiple parents were able to identify and make statements identifying Gibbs as the suspect.
Gibbs was detained without incident by Travis County law enforcement.
School Speaks Out
St. Michael’s Catholic Academy released a statement about the incident Saturday, confirming no students, parents, or staff from its academy were involved. The athletic game was hosted and organized by a third-party leasing company.
