7-Year-Old Drains Mothers Account After Spending $900 on Roblox

A mother of four sweet children received a devastating phone call from her bank.

SUSPICIOUS CHARGES

The bank representative let Kayla Howard know about some very suspicious charges that had been made. "They explained to me that there was a total of seven unauthorized charges on my account," Howard explained. 

CONNECTING THE DOTS

The charges came from the popular app Roblox, totaling almost $900. As she begins to think about where these $897 worth of unauthorized charges came from, her 7-year-old autistic son was nearby playing Roblox--and that's when she connected the dots.

Howard explained because she has multiple children and one with autism, electronics are a big thing in their household. “He’s 7. He has autism. You know it’s hard for him to recognize the consequences of his actions. That’s what he’s working on."

REQUESTING A REFUND WITH NO LUCK

Howard reached out to Google Play and Roblox, requesting a refund, however, Google has only refunded her $10. Just days before Christmas the single mother had an overdraft account with $-1244.52.

"The timing could not have been worse," Howard said. “I’m trying my best not to cry, not to stress out about it. I’m just trying to be as solution-focused about it as I can.”

A BLESSING IN DISGUISE

A GoFundMe account has been created and Howard's unfortunate situation turned into a Christmas blessing. People began donating to Howard's page and she managed to raise more than double what she was asking for. 

She posted this message on her GoFundMe page, "Thank you so much to all of you for your generosity and words of support during this time! We met our goal and I couldn’t be more elated! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you all! ❤️❤️❤️"
