DOES SAN ANTONIO HAVE THE BEST MEXICAN FOOD IN AMERICA?

Well according to one Twitter user, San Antonio has the best Mexican Food in America. While this is a random post from a random guy and it really has no merit, but it got me thinking. Does San Antonio have the best Mexican Food? We will get to that in a minute. First, I will share with you the best Mexican food that I have ever had, and it backs up my personal theory.  The best Mexican food comes from the small towns and cities in South Texas.

THE BEST MEXICAN FOOD I HAVE EVER HAD:

The best Mexican food that I have ever had comes from a town with a population of fewer than 200 people.  Maybe you have heard of this small town? Mirando City! Located 35 miles east of Laredo.  The restaurant is called La La's Cafe and is the epitome of authentic Mexican Food.  This restaurant is a hotspot for hunters and oilfield workers and has been featured in many publications in Texas.  I mean you know it's about to get real when you walk in and see a four-top stove with a comal and a grandpa wearing an apron. It is absolutely fantastic! Oh yeah, they make homemade corn tortillas too.  How did I find this place? My wife is from a small town called Bruni, Texas which is only 12 miles away on Highway 359. Don't let the building fool you.

MY FAVORITE RESTAURANTS IN SAN ANTONIO:

However, I do think San Antonio is the capital of Mexican food and has some great Mexican Restaurants. San Antonio is also our favorite day-trip destination and we have eaten a lot of Mexican food in SA over the years. Here are two of our favorites plus my unpopular opinion.  While these fall under the 'tourist trap' locations, the food is really good at two of the three places.

MAMACITAS MEXICAN RESTAURANT

Located on IH-10 just outside of 410. Mamacitas ambiance matches the food quality and features some of the best homemade tortillas around.  Try a Poquito de Todo, it is fantastic.

CASA RIO

Located on the Riverwalk, Casa Rio features authentic Mexican food at a very reasonable price.  Their hot sauce and queso are the bomb.  Enjoy dinner on the river and get the full San Antonio Riverwalk experience. These are just a couple but there are so many options. Sound off below.

UNPOPULAR OPINION: ME TIERRA IS MEDIOCRE MEXICAN FOOD
