The 2018 Golden Globe nominations were rolled out this morning (December 11), and while dozens of deserving films, TV shows and talents wound up with the most anticipated honors, there were, as usual, a number of snubs from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association's voters.

Guillermo del Toro's wonderful The Shape of Water led the pack with seven nominations (Best Motion Picture Drama, Best Director, Best Actress in a Motion Picture Drama, Best Supporting Actor Drama, Best Supporting Actress Drama, Best Original Score and Best Motion Picture Screenplay), while Hulu's timely breakout series The Handmaid's Tale picked up three nods (Best TV Series Drama, Best Actress in a TV Series Drama and Best Supporting Actress in a TV Miniseries).

Other films and shows, however, were given the cold shoulder, from American Horror Story: Cult to Wonder Woman.

Check out the most shocking and, in some cases, infuriating 2018 Golden Globes snubs, below:

The Big Sick's shut-out
Kumail Nanjiani's semi-autobiographical romantic comedy was completely shut out this year. The Judd Apatow-produced film, based on Nanjiani's real-life experience meeting wife and co-writer Emily V. Gordon, should have been a major contender for Best Motion Picture Comedy and Best Motion Picture Screenplay, at the very least.

It frighteningly didn't make the cut
Andy Muschietti's critically acclaimed film adaptation of Stephen King's iconic novel was the 10th highest-grossing film of 2017, but that wasn't enough for the horror blockbuster to nab any Golden Globe nobs for its director, spooky screenplay or cast of talented kid actors.

Wonder women Greta Gerwig and Patty Jenkins left out of Best Director pool
Unsurprisingly, the Best Director category is stacked with male players once again this year — Guillermo del Toro, Martin McDonagh, Christopher Nolan, Ridley Scott and Steven Spielberg all appear on the list. Sadly, Greta Gerwig, who directed four-time nominee Lady Bird, failed to get a Best Director nod, as did Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins. Unlike Lady Bird, however, Jenkins' well-received DC superhero flick and its powerful star, Gal Gadot, remain as unnoticed as Wonder Woman's infamous Invisible Jet.

Get Out's screenplay and director slight
Jordan Peele's socially and politically charged thriller was nominated for Best Motion Picture Comedy (itself a source of contention for fans) and Best Actor in a Motion Picture Comedy (Daniel Kaluuya). Unfortunately, the acclaimed early 2017 breakout, an impressive directorial debut from Peele, tragically failed to earn nominations for Best Director or Best Screenplay.

Evan Peters' snub is a real American horror story
American Horror Story star Evan Peters was left behind by the Golden Globes again. The actor, who has appeared in all seven seasons of the FX anthology series, made a career-defining turn as a ruthless Middle American cult leader in this year's Cult, which also saw the young actor toggle seamlessly between his main character, Kai, and real-life figures including Charles Manson, Jim Jones and Andy Warhol.

Nicole Kidman's beguiling brush-off
Sofia Coppola's atmospheric civil war drama The Beguiled didn't necessarily stack up to other Best Director, Best Screenplay and Best Motion Picture Drama contenders, but the film did include a powerful, complex performance from Nicole Kidman, who injected her character Martha Farnsworth —the desperate headmistress of a decaying Southern school for girls — with unexpected ferocity, fortitude and wit.

No love for Big Mouth or The Leftovers
HBO's third and final season of its enthralling, cataclysmic The Leftovers was, much like the millions of vanished people in the series' story, inexplicably missing from this year's nominations list. Also not included? Nick Kroll and Andrew Goldberg's hilarious animated coming-of-age comedy, Big Mouth, which premiered on Netflix back in September.

Logan gets X-ed out
Another major film missing from this year's nominees is Marvel's drama-fueled, heartbreaking X-Men spinoff, Logan. Starring Hugh Jackman as an aging, weathered Wolverine, the critically acclaimed film was shut out entirely, though it should have been a contender for Best Motion Picture Drama and Best Actor in a Motion Picture Drama, hands — erm, claws — down.
