At 8:33 p.m. this evening our radio stations received word from the Civil Authorities for Lavaca County. The city of Yoakum Office of Emergency Management in conjunction with Lavaca County Office of Emergency Management and DeWitt County Office of Emergency Management is reporting the first positive test result for COVID-19 in the area.

This resident lives in rural Lavaca County in the Hallettsville zip code and has been admitted to a hospital in Travis County. Right now DSHS is assisting both counties in trying to find out who may have had close contact with the patient so they can isolate and monitor symptoms of those individuals and make sure they can receive a proper screening.

Reports say the person who tested positive for COVID-19 recently visited a couple of restaurants earlier this week located in Yoakum and Shiner. Anyone who visited the locations below should prepare to take some steps to make sure everything is ok.

  • Tacqueria Vallarta at 614 Irvine Street, Yoakum Tuesday, Saturday, March 7th at 1 pm.
  • Sunken Garden Restaurant, 305 5th Street, Shiner, March 10th at 1:30 pm.

Anyone who visited these restaurants at the listed times is asked to
contact the Department of State Health Services Region 8 Epidemiology by calling 210-949-2121.
