Heavy Rains, Cold Temps Wrap Up 2020 in South Texas

Chances for heavy rains and strong winds are moving into South Texas this Wednesday as we get ready to say "good riddance" to 2020. The New Year will begin with cold overnight low temps and chilly daytime highs to kick-off 2021.

Here in the Crossroads, we are looking at around a 60% chance for rain for Wednesday. Rain chances go up tonight as additional showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop with heavy rainfall and strong winds a possibility.

Lows tonight will dip to around 50 tonight. Not much of a warm up for New Year's Eve as temps on Thursday are expected to stay in the upper 50s. A very chilly New Year's Eve will see lows in the mid to upper 30s. Sunshine returns for New Year's Day with a high near 60.

Further out in Western Texas they are dealing with Winter Storm Watches and Warnings as areas like Midland, Odessa, and San Angelo are all dealing with winter temps and chances for snow throughout the day. Heavy snow and sleet will be possible if you are traveling in that direction. The forecast in San Angelo calls for 2 to 6 inches of snow, with some areas seeing as much as 9 inches of snow according to the National Weather Service. Winds could gust as high as 40 mph, and the addition of freezing rain could also cause accumulations of light ice.
