Here’s How Texas is Helping Battle Devastating California Fires
Growing up in Los Angeles, wildfires were almost an annual event—it wasn’t uncommon to hear about blazes in Northern California and even wake up to a thin layer of ash coating cars in our neighborhood.
But the wildfires happening now are on a completely different scale and Texas is stepping up in a big way. More than 135 firefighters and personnel, along with critical equipment, are being deployed from Texas to assist California in fighting these devastating fires.
What Texas Is Sending
Following a request from CAL FIRE, Texas Governor Greg Abbott directed the Texas Division of Emergency Management to coordinate the response. This operation involves resources and personnel from several key organizations, including:
- Texas A&M Forest Service
- Texas Intrastate Fire Mutual Aid System (TIFMAS)
- Texas Emergency Medical Task Force
The deployment includes:
- Over 135 firefighters and emergency personnel
- 45+ fire engines, ambulances, and command vehicles
- Specialized firefighting equipment to help contain and control the fires.
The Severity of the Situation
Thousands of acres have burned, displacing families, destroying property, and putting immense strain on local resources. The smoke from these fires has significantly impacted air quality, creating health risks for millions.
