Hallsburg ISD’s superintendent is facing serious questions after a weekend arrest landed him in jail. Now, the school board is set to meet behind closed doors to determine what happens next.

The Hallsburg school board has scheduled a special meeting for Thursday at 6 p.m. following Superintendent Douglas Marvin's arrest on a public intoxication charge.

What Will Be Discussed

  • Closed session to discuss Marvin’s evaluation and consult with legal counsel.
  • Potential action on his employment when the board returns to open session.

Arrest Details:

49-year-old Douglas Marvin was pulled over Sunday after reports of a vehicle driving erratically on Interstate 35. West Police Sgt. Justin Gonzales conducted the stop on a service road, according to the arrest affidavit.

  • Marvin admitted to drinking 2 alcoholic beverages before driving.
  • He mistakenly said he was in Riesel, but he was actually in West.
  • He failed a field sobriety test and was arrested for public intoxication.

Interestingly, the affidavit does not explain why he was charged with public intoxication instead of DWI.

Booking Information:

  • Arrested: 8:30 p.m., Jan. 2
  • Released: 90 minutes later on a promise to appear before Justice of the Peace, David Pareya.

No Comment from Officials:

Neither Marvin nor Hallsburg board members have responded to requests for comment.

Hallsburg ISD will discuss Marvin’s future at Thursday’s meeting.
