Another day, another TikTok prank gone wrong.

It looks like some people still haven’t figured out that not everything on TikTok is a good idea. Two Texas teens are learning that the hard way after a so-called "prank" landed them in handcuffs this week.

The Arrest

Kyle Police say 18-year-old Lane Burch and 19-year-old Kaine Villarreal were arrested on Wednesday, January 29, after approaching two young children and asking if they wanted to be kidnapped.

Yes, you read that right. Two fully grown adults thought it would be funny to scare kids on their way home from school.

Spoiler alert: No one was laughing.

The two kids, ages 7 and 9, were walking home from Negley Elementary when the suspects allegedly followed and approached them. Thankfully, the kids had the good sense to call their parents, who immediately contacted the police.

When officers arrived, the teens reportedly claimed they were just "recreating a TikTok trend." That excuse didn’t fly, and both were arrested on charges of terroristic threat. Authorities have since notified the local school district about the incident.

TikTok Pranks Keep Landing People in Jail

This marks the second time this month that a TikTok stunt in Texas has led to a police investigation.

Earlier in January, a Port Arthur man went viral for all the wrong reasons after filming himself using a 3-month-old baby to clear snow off his car windshield.

Because nothing says "great parenting" like turning an infant into a human ice scraper.

Police and Child Protective Services launched an investigation into that incident, with the local police chief calling it a "sad situation" and warning that an arrest warrant was likely on the way.

Maybe Skip the Clout-Chasing?

At this point, it’s safe to say that chasing TikTok fame isn’t worth the legal trouble.

Maybe, just maybe, the next viral trend could involve something that doesn’t end with handcuffs?
