Victoria County Parents: This FAFSA Deadline Could Save You Thousands
If your kids' tuition looks like a second mortgage … this could change everything.
If you’ve got a high school kid in Victoria County and college is starting to feel less like a dream and more like a financial jump-scare, then pay close attention to what the University of North Texas(UNT) just revealed. UNT just announced a new program called North Texas Promise, and the whole point of it is simple:
If you qualify, UNT will cover your tuition and mandatory fees for up to four years.
UNT’s North Texas Promise is launching for first-time college students starting in the Fall 2026 semester. Covering tuition and fees is UNT’s solution to making their degree’s more affordable for Texas families.
“This program is about making a UNT degree attainable for students who have worked hard and earned their place here, but may be uncertain about affordability,” said Shannon Goodman, UNT’s vice president for enrollment. “The North Texas Promise gives families clarity and confidence that cost will not stand in the way of a college education.”

Who can qualify?

Here’s the important part for Crossroads families:
To be eligible, you have to be a Texas student, and your household income has to be under $100,000 per year.
But there are a few other requirements too. Students generally need to be:
  • A first-time freshman starting at UNT in Fall 2026
  • A Texas resident (and graduate from a Texas high school)
  • Admitted to UNT
  • Either in the top 25% of their graduating high school class or eligible for a Pell Grant

Getting things done on time.

There’s one more qualification, and that is to have your FAFSA completed by February 15, 2026.

Do not let that deadline disqualify you from this incredible opportunity. UNT says you must complete the FAFSA by Feb. 15, 2026, and there’s no extra application required beyond that.
Keep in mind, the North Texas Promise program covers tuition and fees, but not other expenses like books, meals, parking, etc.
