This scenario played out in the Houston area this week. A couple was returning home from vacation. The pictures were initially posted on the Mark Herman, Harris County Constable Precinct 4 Facebook page. The residents of the home were surprised by the appearance of the alligator when Tami Tanner, felt a slap from the alligator's tail.  As you can see in the picture below, the alligator looks extremely happy to be hanging out on their porch!

KHOU spoke with one of the homeowners, Jody White, who says the alligator slapped his girlfriend, Tami Tanner, with his tail. “When she first hollered, I thought somebody was behind the brick wall there,” White said. “So I come running up and it was an alligator and he made a loud roar and I picked her up and drug her out here back to the truck and I called the police and game warden.” According to the article, Tanner was taken to the hospital and is expected to be ok. Texas Parks and Wildlife are on scene and will relocate the alligator back into his natural habitat. What would you do if you found yourself in this situation?

Alligator encounters are rare but if an alligator approaches you its best to slowly walk away and then run in a straight line until you are out of harm's way. Live Science says running in a zigzag to avoid an alligator attack is a myth. If an alligator were to bite you, fight and try to hit the alligator in the nose, Live Science also advises.
