Bloomington Mother Arrested for the Death of Her 1 Old Month Baby
A Bloomington woman has been arrested for the death of her infant child. Capital murder charges have been filed, and Nakisha Shantay Barnes, 33, is currently sitting in the Victoria County jail.
Around 15 after 10 am on Wednesday, July 16, the Victoria County Sheriff's Office got a call about a wounded one-month-old infant from Bloomington, TX. They immediately met up with the Fire Department and EMS, who made the call, at our local Detar Hospital.
It was there that the one-month-old baby was pronounced dead. According to the press release from the Victoria County Sheriff's Office, " the infant died as a result of traumatic injuries consistent with intentional physical abuse."
With little hesitation, a warrant for the mother's arrest, Nakisha Shantay Barnes, was issued, and she was swiftly arrested and put up for bail at a $500,000.00 bond.
The Texas Rangers and the Victoria County Criminal District Attorney are leading the case. As more information begins to unfold, we will continue to keep you updated.
The reason behind the death of this innocent child has not been proven as of yet. However, a silent problem for many mothers is Post Partum Depression. If left untreated, it can spiral out of control and lead to fatal endings.
There are so many resources, but unfortunately, even in this day and age, there is still a negative stigma attached to the condition. So many women are ashamed or embarrassed by their symptoms. It can feel like you are failing as a mother, but that simply is not true.
