Houston Icon Mattress Mack Just Announced Store Closure
In a surprising move, Jim “Mattress Mack” McIngvale just announced he's closing down Gallery Furniture in a post on Facebook.
Mattress Mack is a Houston icon known for his high-energy persona with deep ties in the Houston community, an itch for gambling, and owner of Gallery Furniture.
Mattress Mack announced on Facebook on April 2nd, offering a massive blowout sale at the Post Oak showroom, with furniture up to 70% off as a thank-you to his loyal customers.
What happens with Gallery Furniture now?
The closure of the Post Oak showroom location isn't the end of Gallery Furniture. The Post Oak location, which took up a massive 30,000 square feet, was the smallest of the Gallery Furniture's 3 locations.
Mattress Mack had previously hinted at a closure in 2019 during a radio interview, admitting the location was dealt a large blow to sales due to nearby construction, “The traffic went down by half because they tore up the road,” he said.
Mattress Mack might do good with the closure. Last year was a difficult time for Mattress Mack who suffered a serious infection and open-heart surgery, just months apart.
Last fall, the furniture icon vomited in the parking lot and was unable to have a stable conversation with store employees. These startling symptoms led to a bacterial infection diagnosis.
Although the Post Oak location is shutting down, Gallery Furniture isn't going anywhere. I think we can all still expect to see Mattress Mack filming wacky commercials and maybe making a few risky bets on Texas sports teams.
