Houston Homeowner Shoots 2 Masked ‘Cops’ at the Door
A Houston homeowner killed two masked men who were posing as police late Saturday night.
A late-night knock on a Houston homeowner's door felt off from the get-go. The two people at the door claimed they were serving a warrant, but something was off. The homeowner noticed there were no patrol cars, no flashing lights, and both were in ski masks with badges hanging from their necks, according to Houston police.
The homeowner watched everything on a Ring camera, kept the door closed, and refused to let the men inside. Moments later, the masked men began firing shots into the front door. The homeowner fired back, killing both suspects.

HPD Lt. Amber Khan summed up the red flags: "They became suspicious because they have a Ring camera and the suspects were stating they had a warrant, but it's just two people, and they're masked up and no police cars, no lights or anything like that."
Texas's Stand Your Ground law protects victims.
If you’re wondering where the law lands on this, Texas’ Castle Doctrine/Stand Your Ground is crystal clear on one point: in your own home, you don’t have to run. If you reasonably believe deadly force is immediately necessary to stop death or serious injury, the law justifies using it.
What a real police scenario would be like.
HPD’s advice for the next knock: real officers don’t show up like movie burglars. Expect marked units, lights/sirens, and officers announcing themselves, often over a bullhorn. If anything feels off, don’t open the door; talk through your camera and call 911 to confirm.
Bottom line for Texans who will absolutely stand their ground: trust your gut and the facts in front of you. In this case, a calm head and a doorbell camera may have stopped a deadly home invasion before it started.
