An Entire Police Department Just Quit in This Texas Town
Something shocking just happened in Jacksboro, Texas- every single police officer in the town quit. That includes the police chief and all nine officers. Now, the Jack County Sheriff’s Office is temporarily in charge of keeping the town safe.
This shocking move comes after months of problems between the police department and city leaders. In December, city manager Smith was pulled over for a broken taillight. He later said he thought some officers were trying to get him in trouble for drunk driving, even though no alcohol was found.
After the incident, Smith put the police chief and two officers on leave and asked for an investigation by the Texas Rangers and District Attorney. The officers were later cleared and returned to work but the damage had already been done.

The town will build a new police force from scratch.
City Manager Mike Smith said all the officers quit on their own on April 30. He’s now trying to hire a new police chief who will build a brand-new team from scratch.
In the meantime, the Jack County Sheriff, Charles “T-Bob” Hauger, said his deputies are now handling patrols and open cases in Jacksboro. One deputy is on each shift, and more are available if needed.
The tension between city leaders and police is confirmed.
A letter from the town’s police association said the officers had problems with how the city was being run. City leaders say they hope to hire a new chief soon.
“We’re hiring for a chief of police,” Smith said. “We’re going to let him or her build up the department from scratch.”
