Flood Disaster Grows: 30 Texas Counties Now on the List
Governor Greg Abbott just expanded the state’s disaster declaration again; this time, adding Edwards, Kinney, Real, and Schleicher counties to the list.
That makes 30 counties total now officially under disaster status after brutal flooding swept across parts of the state.
Abbott also told the Texas Division of Emergency Management to work with FEMA and the Trump administration to try to get even more counties added to the federal Major Disaster Declaration.
Here’s what that means for real people:
If your home or business took on damage in any of the listed counties, this could open the door to federal help. Things like housing support, repairs, or public facility restoration may now be on the table if your area qualifies.
Right now, four counties, Guadalupe, Kimble, Menard, and McCulloch, are being requested for FEMA’s Individual Assistance Program, which goes directly to people.
Another five counties, Edwards, Lampasas, Reeves, Schleicher, and Sutton, are up for Public Assistance, which helps cities and counties rebuild roads, buildings, and other infrastructure.
If you think you might qualify, go to disasterassistance.gov or call 800-621-3362.
Abbott’s been busy:
In the last couple of weeks, he’s toured the damage, met with first responders, and pushed through a list of actions, including:
- $5 million in disaster recovery loans for small businesses
- $1.9 million in grants to flood-impacted hospitals
- Expanded access to hot food through SNAP
- Mental health support lines for flood victims
- And multiple requests for more counties to get FEMA help
Expect more counties to be added as damage reports keep rolling in. If your area’s not on the list yet, don’t give up; officials say the process is ongoing.
