Texas Man Jumps Out of Moving Patrol Unit, Escapes For Hours!
Just before 3 a.m. on Saturday, a Texas patrol deputy noticed a vehicle blocking the roadway in Dickinson. As the deputy approached a man jumped out of the car and took off on foot.
Around the same time, Dickinson Police broadcast a burglary alert with a suspect matching the man's description. Deputies quickly set up a perimeter and caught 35-year-old Sylvester Thompson, charging him with evading arrest.
However, the evasion didn't stop there.
While being transported to Galveston County Jail, Thompson was able to get his handcuffs from the back to the front of his body. He then proceeded to roll down the patrol window and escape- all while the vehicle was still moving!
Struggle Leaves Deputy Injured
Deputies chased Thompson again, leading to a struggle on IH-45. Sheriff Fullen says Thompson assaulted a deputy and attempted to grab his weapon before escaping on foot. The injured deputy was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Hours-Long Manhunt Ends in Arrest
It took several hours of searching before finding Thompson (still handcuffed) inside a moving vehicle in Santa Fe, Texas.
Two Others Charged for Helping Thompson
The vehicle’s driver, 32-year-old Captain Ferrel Lawson, and another passenger, 33-year-old Ebonnie Persha Lathon, have been charged with hindering apprehension, a third-degree felony. Their bonds are set at $100,000 each.
