TX Man Heroically Saves Police During Intense Shootout on Hwy 59
A horrifying video caught the life-saving moment a heroic citizen risked everything to save the life of an injured officer during a shootout on a busy Houston highway.
OFFICER DOWN
A video posted to social media shows a shootout between officers and a suspect in the middle of Hwy 59 in Houston, Texas. An officer is seen lying on the ground after being shot in the leg, that's when a heroic citizen stepped in.
John Lally told KPRC, "I saw he got shot, and I knew he got shot because he buckled to the ground... my mission at that point was just to get to him."
CITIZEN HEROICALLY LEAPS INTO ACTION
Lally begins cautiously making his way to the officer, yelling and motioning for the officer to come towards him. As the shootout continues, Lally crouches down, quickly grabs Officer Gibson, and drags him to safety.
Gibson is heard painfully moaning and grunting as he is dragged out of harm's way. Lally begins to try and calm the officer down, “I said, I want to let you know you’re going to be OK, the officer already put a tourniquet on your leg,” Lally told Gibson. “I know when you’re going through that type of pain, just somebody talking to you and being there with you and just holding your hand is probably going to take your mind off a lot of that stuff.”
Lally's quick action and heroic efforts saved the Texas officer's life. Gibson was taken to a hospital and is expected to have a full recovery. The suspect was later pronounced dead.
