A special task force has been created in Victoria between the City of Victoria Police Department and the Victoria County Sheriffs office along with Constable Gary Smejkal to address violations of the Stay Home- Stay Safe mandate issued for Victoria County on April 1st 2020.

Yesterday, April 8th, at the Operations for Emergency Management meeting both Sheriff Dept. Chief Deputy Roy Boyd and Victoria Police Chief JJ Craig announced the task force and offered advice for citizens and businesses who are not complying with Stay Home Stay Safe mandates outlined in the Stay Home- Stay Safe order. The task force is now out in the community issuing citations, but they are also in the community to deliver you and your business educational information. Chief Boyd offers, "Our goal is to educate individuals and businesses about the Stay Home- Stay Safe Order and to help educate and work with the community. 418 businesses have been contacted and we are now distributing information pamphlets to small businesses." Boyd says. Additionally, if you have a small business in Victoria Chief Boyd has asked that you call the Victoria HOTLINE at 361.580.5796 so that the task force can come to visit your business and answer questions you might have directly.

Chief Craig offered additionally that as more blatant violations and incidents have occurred, three citations have been issued. Those citations can lead to fines and jail time. "Our officers will take enforcement action if you are in violation of the Stay Home- Stay Safe Order mandates." Chief Craig says.
