Victoria Airport Is Finally Getting a Long-Overdue Upgrade
If you’ve ever flown out of the Victoria Regional Airport, you know it’s got “charm” Sure it’s got a little age showing around its corners, but for a three decades old terminal, it's still getting the job done.
However, lately, it’s been struggling to keep up with today’s security standards, bigger aircraft, and room in general, but that’s about to change.
Victoria’s Airport is getting modernized.
Victoria Regional Airport has secured funding to help replace the airport’s 30,000-square-foot terminal with a modern, fully updated version. The total cost of the project is approximately $27 million, with funding provided by Congressman Michael Cloud ($5.5 million), Senator Louis Kolkhorst (approximately $2.5 million), and the remaining balance funded by Victoria County.
“The Victoria Regional Airport is a key economic gateway for our region and needs an infrastructure upgrade to meet modern-day security and service needs of air travel,” Congressman Michael Cloud said. “This funding is a step toward solving real, local challenges.”

Airport Director Lenny Llerena has been dreaming of this update for years and says it couldn’t have come at a better time.
“Our 32-year-old passenger terminal needs to be replaced with a modern building that can accommodate our passengers and meet the needs of TSA,” he explained. “With the increase in traffic, this support will help make the new terminal a reality.”
Right now, travelers deal with cramped gate areas, long TSA lines, and limited space for airline operations. Once construction is complete, the new terminal should make the experience smoother, more secure, and way less claustrophobic.
“We’re thankful for Congressman Cloud’s leadership in keeping our area moving forward,” added County Judge Ben Zeller.
No word yet on when the bulldozers are rolling in, but one thing’s for sure, Victoria’s getting an airport is making its way to the 21st century, and honestly, it’s about time.
