H-E-B Checkout Lines Explode Ahead of the Weekend Freeze
Anytime there’s mention of a freeze, Texans go into survival mode. We can’t help it; it’s a trauma response after Winter Storm Uri.
This weekend, the National Weather Service warned Victoria and surrounding counties to be prepared for extreme weather, including a freeze and icy roads. Obviously, this sent Texas spiraling into panic mode and rushing straight to the nearest H-E-B.
People online started joking about panic-buying supplies:
The caption says, "Very Texas thing is everyone panic shopping at HEB right now when it’s like 65°F and sunny outside...“
Even people in Victoria rushed to grab supplies and soup ingredients, but is it really necessary this time around? One Texas meteorologist doesn’t think so. In a hilarious Facebook post, he tells people to hold off on panic buying, “No, we're not there yet. You already have plenty of toilet paper. Buying more won't fill the emptiness in your heart. Leave HEB alone!!!”

H-E-B checkout lines before a freeze.
That’s not stopping many people from caving and rushing to stock up. Videos all over TikTok show the massive checkout lines and empty shelves at H-E-B.
Although if we are plagued with severe weather over the weekend, H-E-B is fully prepared. Of course they are, after all, “No store does more.” The stores continuously restock shelves throughout the day and are prepared for extreme weather events.
"At H-E-B, our top priority is taking care of Texas," H-E-B told MySA in a statement.
