Spring Break in Texas has always been a hot mess. Beaches get trashed, arrests go through the roof, and there's been enough chaos in the past to make city officials actually do something about it.

  • Alcohol-Free Zones In the past, consumption and/or possession of alcoholic beverages during Spring Break was enforced during certain hours. This may become the trend again this year.
  • No More Glass Containers Many Texas beaches have completely banned glass bottles.
  • Curfews & Crowd Control Measures Police are cracking down on after-dark gatherings. Many beaches have curfews in place for Spring Break.
  • Public Intoxication Drinking alcohol in popular Spring Break destinations like South Padre Island, is legal. However, being intoxicated to the point of endangering yourself or others is still a crime. Public intoxication is classified as a Class C misdemeanor in Texas.
  • Fireworks Spring Break is a time to party but using fireworks is still overwhelmingly banned. In general, the use of fireworks is prohibited on many Texas beaches and within certain city limits.

At the end of the day, Spring Break rules aren’t the same everywhere. What flies in one Texas beach town might get you fined (or worse) in another. Some places are cracking down hard on alcohol, late-night parties, and overcrowding, while others are a bit more laid-back.

How to find what is banned on Texas beaches.

Do your research before you go. Look up the rules for the Texas beach you're planning on visiting on the beach's official website. Check local laws, know the curfews, and maybe...just maybe...avoid ending up in a viral mugshot.
