One of our community's most historic non-profits, Bluebonnet Youth Ranch, has had to cancel its biggest fundraiser, their annual Celebrity Golf Tournament, due to COVID.

Yet, the children they care for still need a roof over their heads, food to eat, and guidance to grow.

Even with their event canceled, the BlueBonnet Youth Ranch remains open, just as they have been since 1972.

Their story is one born of necessity when in 1968, a group of Yoakum businessmen pooled their funds together to provide a home and caregiver for five children whose widowed, alcoholic mother left them to receive treatment and job training. Their funds covered rent and the caretaker until the Welfare Department intervened claiming it was illegal to operate a "home" for children without a license.

As word spread, so did the support for these children as community members and patron, Anne Barne, dedicated and donated 50 acres to serve the needs of Texas children most in need of residential care.

Since their doors were opened, the "Bluebonnet Youth Ranch has cared for an estimated 450 children between infancy and 18 years of age from 68 different Texas towns and continues to be a leader in creating safe happier, and healthier lives for Texas children," their website offers.

With their famous Celebrity Golf Tournament canceled, they have chosen instead to host a Facebook Raffle on October 10th at 12 pm.  Raffle tickets are $20 for one and $100 for six. The money raised will fill the large gap in funds that the golf tournament would normally cover.  Scheduled for October 10th on the Bluebonnet Youth Ranch Facebook page raffle prizes include bay fishing trips, a Lake Conroe weekend of golf, a George Springer autographed bat and so much more.

Monies raised during this raffle will help to cover expenses normally raised during the CGT.

The Bluebonnet Youth Ranch has helped save hundreds of lives of Texas children, let's band together to help them to continue their incredible mission.

To purchase raffle tickets, or to make a donation visit their website here. If you're not able to donate, you can peruse their wish list on their website as well.
