As we get closer to the start of another school year, some new regulations will take effect. The Victoria Independent School District (VISD) will implement House Bill 1481. The goal of the bill is to help reduce distractions in the classroom and improve learning environments.

What are the expectations of students?

Expectations from the students were issued in a press release issued by the Victoria Independent School District. The bill does not just include cell phones; it is for multiple electronic devices, such as smart watches, tablets, and basically any device that can send and receive messages. All devices are to be powered off and stored away during the school day, which includes lunch, class times, and before and after school while on campus.

Parents are raising concerns.

Many parents have raised concerns about not being able to get a hold of their children during the school day. Some have gone to TikTok to voice their opinions on the new House Bill 1481.  Marissa Armas goes into further detail on how this ban will work..

HB 1441 still needs approval from the school board.

The VISD Board of Trustees will meet on August 7 for official approval. Once it happens, more details will be released. This is a developing story.
