Talk about bad luck. A terrifying lightning strike set a Texas home on fire during a severe storm, and it was all caught on video!
The insane footage shows a huge flash of lightning followed by a thunderbolt. In the blink of an eye, a cloud of thick black smoke and flames immediately erupted from the house.

According to a GoFundMe created by neighbors, homeowners Annie and Eric Dries were inside at the time, along with Annie’s parents, a healthcare worker, and the couple’s children. The lightning reportedly hit the second floor, right outside the kids’ bedrooms.

Despite how severe the fire looked, all seven people made it out safely. No life-threatening injuries were reported.

The ceiling caved in while I was with my parents and our healthcare worker,” the homeowner told WFAA. The fire quickly spread through the home, forcing the family to evacuate. A home security camera captured the exact moment of the strike and the fire’s fast escalation.

The Dries family has been displaced and is currently staying in a hotel while searching for a long-term rental.

Colleyville was just one of many cities in the Dallas area that were hit with bad weather. The unfortunate lightning strike was just one of the few damages that happened from the weather in several parts of Texas this week, including uprooted trees and power outages.
Lightning strikes homes every year but incidents this severe and so clearly captured on video are incredibly rare.
