
Texas Coach Arrested After Breaking Up Violent Softball Fight
Texas High School softball coach arrested after breaking up on-field fight – the clip that’s dividing the internet.
Mathis High School softball coach Briana Cruz is making headlines after turning herself into the police for physically stepping in during an out-of-control altercation between players on April 15th.
The incident, which took place during a heated UIL championship softball game, was caught on camera and quickly went viral.
So, what happened?
Well, during the fifth inning, things got tense between a Taft Greyhounds player and a Mathis Pirates player. Emotions flared, and before anyone could step in, Cruz found herself in the middle of it, grabbing a player and bringing them both to the ground.
Now, the internet is divided: Was Cruz just trying to break up a fight, or did she overstep her boundaries?
The Taft player's mother held true to her word, “I want Coach Briana Cruz to never be allowed to coach again." Cruz was charged with assault causing bodily injury and respectfully turned herself in the next day and was released on bond.
Students weren't the only ones fighting. In the bleachers behind the home base, two adults began fighting during the chaos, creating even more tension.
Here’s the thing:
Aggression on the field isn’t new, but this was next level. Now, everyone is debating who is actually at fault, the aggressive and violent player or the coach physically intervening? Either way, this is a poor representation of an exciting sport.
