Get Ready! Serious Rainy Weather is On It’s Way to Texas
Looks like Texas might finally be getting a break from the blazing summer heat—courtesy of Tropical Storm Francine!
Just when you thought we’d never cool off, here comes a storm ready to bring some much-needed rain. But don’tcelebrate too soon—Francine may bring more than just cooler temps, with heavy rain, flooding, and even hurricane-force winds expected later this week.
TRACKING TROPICAL STORM FRANCINE
Tropical Storm Francine is picking up speed in the Gulf of Mexico, and it’s heading toward the Texas coast. According to the National Weather Service, Francine became a tropical storm on Monday, with winds at 50 miles per hour. It'sexpected to get stronger as it moves closer to land, possibly even becoming a hurricane.
Right now, Francine is about 245 miles southeast of the Rio Grande, bringing heavy rain to South Texas and Mexico.Some areas could see up to 12 inches of rain! The storm is expected to pass just south of Houston on Wednesday before hitting Louisiana later that evening.
There’s a big risk of flash flooding in coastal Texas, Louisiana, and Mississippi. Coastal areas, like Galveston, are under flood warnings, with a storm surge of 1 to 3 feet possible.
TEXAS IS GETTING PREPARED
Texas Governor Greg Abbott has already activated emergency teams and power companies are getting ready for potential outages. Texans are being asked to prepare by monitoring weather updates and having a plan in case the storm shifts westward.
