Crossroads Christmas Tradition You Should See; The Nutcracker
This holiday season, the Victoria Ballet Theatre invites you to one of the Crossroad's long-standing Christmas traditions, 'The Nutcracker'.
Sure, it's a ballet, but it's a ballet like no other. Kids and adults of all ages have been enjoying the magic of The Nutcracker for decades. In fact, 'The Nutcracker' ballet was commissioned by the director of Moscow's Imperial Theatres, Ivan Vsevolozhsky, in 1891, and premiered a week before Christmas 1892.
German folklore offers that the original story offered there was a farmer who offered a reward to anyone who could help him crack the walnuts that grew on his tree. A carpenter told him to saw the nut in half while a soldier told him to shoot the nut. Suddenly a puppet maker came along with a beautiful puppet, made of wood and painted in bright colors, which had strong jaws that could be used to crack the walnuts.

Since premiering in western countries in the 1940s, 'The Nutcracker' ballet has become perhaps the most popular to be performed around Christmas time, and you've got the opportunity to be a part of the tradition right here in the Crossroads.
Considered a timeless holiday tradition, the Victoria Ballet Theatre will present 'The Nutcracker' from December 8th through the 11th this holiday season.
Choreographed by Debbe Busby,' The Nutcracker' will feature community members, company dancers, professional guest artists and one of Tchaikovsky's most enduring scores throughout the ballet.
The Nutcracker has been a part of the Crossroad's most beloved holiday traditions since 1985.
