Texas Town Looks Like It’s Under Water As Storm Develops
As Texas begins to feel the effects of tropical storms forming, agencies are urging caution when traveling.
An update from Matagorda County Precinct 6 Updates Facebook page shows bodies of water covering roads and communities in Sargent, Texas.
TEXAS TOWNS ALREADY EXPERIENCING FLOODING
The posts show water completely covering roads. The post reads, "Use caution as you head out this morning around Sargent. Low areas have water over roadways. Please monitor updates from county officials."
COASTAL FLOODING SAFETY
Use extreme caution when traveling in these conditions:
- Secure boats, beach fronts, and river front properties
- TURN AROUND DON'T DROWN
- Avoid driving through flooded roads
- Dont drive around barricades
- Have an alternate route in case of road closures
- Check for updates from your local weather office, local officials, and TV/radio
STORM UPDATES ADN CAUTIONS
Wednesday afternoon the Potential Tropical Cyclone is anticipated to strengthen into a Tropical Storm as it slowly moves towards the Mexico coastline, where it will make landfall late tonight/early Thursday morning. The US National Weather Service Houston-Galveston Texas warns, "Regardless of development, local impacts are expected to be" :
- Hazardous Beach and Coastal Conditions
- High risk of strong rip currents and moderate to significant coastal flooding possible
- Gusty Coastal Winds
- Areas along the coast may see easterly winds around 20-40mph with gusts to 55mph possible. These gusty winds will continue through Thursday morning.
- Hazardous Marine Conditions
- A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for the waters of Matagorda Bay and the Gulf Waters
- Locally Heavy Rainfall
- Widespread rainfall will continue throughout the day before tapering off Thursday morning.
