A Texas high school made the last-minute decision to postpone their high school graduation ceremony after they discovered only 5 students were eligible to graduate.

NEGATIVE REACTIONS TO VIRAL POST

Marlin ISD posted their decision online and it instantly went viral. Parents, teachers, students, community members, and many others began to voice their disappointment.

"Why on earth would you ever punish kids that have worked hard and done what they're supposed to to graduate?"

"Good job. Penalize the kids that did what they were supposed to do"

"The 5 that’s passed should be able to walk and graduate! They are not responsible for the mistake and oversight of others!!!"

THE REAL REASON STUDENTS FAILED

Blame is being thrown in all directions. Some believe teachers are at fault, others believe parents are at fault but the reason 28 students could not graduate was due to their attendance or grades.

Marlin ISD revealed they are pushing back the graduation date to June to give the other students time to "meet requirements for graduation."

“We hold firm to our belief that every student in Marlin ISD can and will achieve their potential,” said Superintendent Darryl Henson, he added, “Students will be held to the same high standard as any other student in Texas.”

THE PUBLIC IS NOT BUYING IT

However, people continued to point out flaws in their excuses. One user said:

"You are rescheduling it to 'maintain high academic expectations’ so you don’t look bad to the state. You claim you want to 'ensure the student's success.' You should’ve been doing that all year."
